Does God really love me?
It’s easy to wonder, “Does God really love me?” When we see so much hate in the world, we may ask if God has the same qualities. But what I’ve learned from God’s Word is that “God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?” (Numbers 23:19)
While we are made in God’s image, God is not like people in that He lies or leaves us like we may have experienced from parents, spouses, or friends. What God says, He does.
That’s why I find so much comfort in God’s Word. We can trust that what God has shared with us through the Bible is true. That means, when God says that He loves us, He means it!
#1 God’s love is not about our performance

#2 He calls us His children

#3 His love is everlasting

#4 His love is steadfast

#5 God keeps His covenant
Therefore know that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments. Deuteronomy 7:9
#6 God’s love is not circumstantial
βFor the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,β says the LORD, who has compassion on you. Isaiah 54:10
#7 Love is God’s character
So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. 1 John 4:16
#8 Nothing can separate us from God’s love
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39
Knowing about God’s love vs. receiving His love
Although I grew up in a Christian home and had heard about God’s love, I didn’t fully know how to receive it until I was in my late 20s and early 30s.
Knowing about God’s love is not the same as choosing to receive it for yourself. You can read all the verses and memorize them, but until you choose to believe them, you won’t experience the power of forgiveness and freedom.
God offers mercy and grace to us through Jesus. But often, we still walk in shame from past sins. We beat ourselves up over what we once did. But that’s not the abundant life God wants us to walk in. To move from shame and guilt into grace and mercy, we must believe that these verses are true for us personally.
These verses about God’s love apply to you, even though you have a past. Even though you might be struggling with something right now.
I pray that as you read through these verses again, you will choose to believe them for you. Ask God to reveal His heart to you and help you to know Him more.
