Clothing Yourself in Compassion

Clothing Yourself in Kindness | Colossians 3:12

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience…

Colossians 3:12

When I first started dating my husband, this verse felt especially personal.

Before our second date, I was completely overthinking what to wear. We were planning to hike the Manitou Incline, so I needed something practical and comfortable—but I also wanted to look cute.

I tried on outfit after outfit, frustrated that none of them felt quite right.

Then I glanced at my dry erase board and saw the verse I had written there:

Colossians 3:12 — “Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience…”

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience…

Colossians 3:12

In that moment, I felt gently redirected.

More important than what I was putting on my body was what I was putting on my heart.

It’s not wrong to want to look nice. Outward beauty has its place. But even more than flattering clothes or the perfect hiking outfit, we’re called to intentionally clothe ourselves in compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.

Those are the qualities that truly shine.
Those are the attributes that reflect Christ.

And when we choose to wear those, we don’t just draw people to ourselves—we point them to Him. 💕
