Ever feel like your prayers aren’t enough? I prayed earnestly for a husband for years, and I often wondered why it wasn’t happening.
At times, I wondered:
- Was I praying the wrong way?
- Had God forgotten me?
- Was it on me to make it all happen?
When things take longer than I hope, I wonder if I’ve missed a step or if it’s my fault they didn’t happen.

What I’ve learned is that God always hears me and He wants to give me good things. But His way and timing often look different than mine.
I prayed for a husband in my 20s but didn’t meet him until I was in my 30s. Now I look back on all the breakups and the man I married, and I’m grateful it worked out the way it did, even if it took a lot longer than I thought it would.
It’s the same with writing projects I’ve been working on for years but haven’t yet finished. Pieces of the puzzle are finally starting to come together in a way much better than I expected.
We often don’t understand why we pray for something but it doesn’t happen immediately.
We might wonder:
- has God forgotten?
- has He really heard me?
It’s not that God hasn’t heard. It’s not that He doesn’t care. He simply knows the best time and way to make things happen. It takes time for God to prepare us for what He has in store.
Don’t rush the process. Pray earnestly and frequently about whatever it is that concerns you. Then trust Him with the timing and the way it happens.
It might not look the way you imagined, but if God is at work in it, you can be sure it will be better than what you imagined.
What is something you’ve been praying earnestly for? What part of your life feels like it’s taking too long? What would it look like if you fully trusted God with the timing and way it works out?
